California apple labels come from four distinct regions: The Pajaro Valley near Watsonville, Sonoma Valley region near Sebastopol, near Yucaipa and Redlands in Southern California and from Various brokers and growers operating in the central valley. There are also many broker labels from Los Angeles and San Francisco. California apple labels are among the rarest labels available. They are also among the most beautiful. Whereas, Washington state labels often number in the thousands-found, California apples were nearly all found in small numbers to begin with. Among the most highly prized, oldest, and hardest to find are those from Watsonville and the surrounding area. Apples were also grown commercially in Placerville, Camino, Humboldt county, around Ukiah, near Sonora, Sacramento, Placer county and Montgomery Creek. There are currently over 400 apple label varieties known for California packs. More will undoubtedly be uncovered.

There is so much history still undocumented about the agricultural regions of California, that very little can be gone into here. In the future, much more research will need to be done to document all of it. Being one the largest states in merica, and being the most agrarian state in the Union, there are countless volumes of history to be recorded. This is on top of the already countless volumes that HAVE been recorded. As American states go, California has a rather young commercial history. Prior to the Gold Rush of the 1850s, virtually no agriculture was practiced here. Since then, agriculture has historically been the leading economic factor in the California economy.
